Defense Attorney Mary Nerino

Mary Nerino is a Virginia state and federal level defense attorney who serves clients in criminal matters throughout the Northern Virginia area. After graduating from the Pennsylvania State University, Mary taught elementary school in Washington, DC, before deciding to pursue a career in law. Mary attended law school at The Washington and Lee University School of Law, where she was Vice President of the Student Bar Association and served on the Moot Court Executive Board. During her time in law school, she also served as the Vice Justice for the Staples Chapter of the Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity, worked as a research assistant focusing on the right to counsel and collateral consequences of criminal convictions, competed in and coached the Mock Trial team, volunteered with the Southwest Virginia Innocence Project and the Virginia Rights Restoration Project, and served as a tutor and translator for ESL students in local elementary schools. After law school, Mary spent a year as an Attorney Fellow with the Alexandria Office of the Public Defender, before moving into private criminal practice. In addition to her practice with Price Benowitz, Mary remains active in local and national professional defense organizations and bar associations.

About Mary Nerino

Ms. Nerino previously served as an Associate Attorney at the law offices of Henson Pachuta Kammerman PLLC, where she worked on felony and misdemeanor criminal cases in General District and Circuit Courts in nine counties in Northern Virginia. During this time, she also worked on federal cases heard in the Eastern District of Virginia and filed appeals to the Virginia Court of Appeals. Ms. Nerino also has experience helping clients with immigration-related matters, especially unintended immigration consequences stemming from criminal convictions.

Before pursuing her career in law, Ms. Nerino spent two years as an educator with Teach for America at a bilingual public school in Washington, D.C., where she used her Spanish proficiency to benefit young students in our nation’s capital, taught poetry and soccer as a volunteer with DC SCORES, and wrote curricula for the DCPS central office. In her free time, Ms. Nerino can usually be found catching a concert at one of the DC Metro area’s many venues or running along the monuments at the National Mall – that is, as long as there’s no football to watch.

Ms. Nerino has extensive experience handling criminal cases that span a wide range of legal issues.
From client interviews to post-trial motions, she handles all aspects of the trial process,  including witness preparation and direct and cross-examination.
